SPG Architects worked with Brazilian colleague Alan Borger, of Fabrica de Projetos, to form an international team to design this new restaurant and bar in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Vila Madalena neighborhood, building on the area’s cultural and nightlife attractions. The restaurant is set back from the street by a long courtyard that establishes a linear entrance that is architecturally enhanced and rendered more explicit through the use of linear and graphic lighting elements that lead the visitor from the street to the full depth of the site and the interior spaces. The newly lit courtyard wall parallels the circulation path and becomes a visual focus from the street, leading to a new entry portal, which changes color through the use of fields of LED lighting behind translucent panels. Parallel paths of floor and ceiling lighting, countertops and bars all serve to define and energize the space while the open stainless steel kitchen provides an interior focal point that activates the dining experience.
