Located on the second floor of a grand Victorian mansion overlooking the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and enjoying spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and New York Harbor, this 1-1/2 bedroom apartment was reconfigured to incorporate the wealth of original period detailing (including mahogany fire surrounds and shutters, extensive moldings and original flooring) with the clients’ modernist sensibilities.

The two owners, based primarily in London, asked SPG Architects both to renovate the apartment and to provide interior design services with an eye to the harmony of the intersections between the two styles. They requested loving restoration of the period woodwork along with significant insertions of modern cabinetry and millwork to provide a more sleek contemporary gestalt.
