The 27,000 SF Corporate Offices of Palm Pictures are located in the Starrett Lehigh Building, a landmark factory warehouse building on the West Side of Manhattan. Plan and material choices were made both to accommodate the client’s program and to take advantage of the floor’s bright sweeping views of the Hudson River and the city skyline. In support of this goal, SPG Architects developed a continuous full-height glass and steel office facade wall that literally and figuratively mirrors the site’s continuous ribbon windows. Translucent walls that both interrupt and run perpendicular to the steel and glass wall define communal spaces such as conference areas, screening rooms, and lounges. Back office functions, requiring less light, are located further from the windows and are rendered in dense or opaque materials. Utilities left exposed both provide cost savings and emphasize the height and historic industrial character of the space.
